       Everyone talks about Notepad integrating formatting and links and stuff, but nobody remembers when Windows also came with a tool called WordPad, that did the same thing but better (and no AI thankfully).It's better because not only you can do the same things as in Notepad, but you could do more things like color stuff, select different fonts, and use OLE to embed stuff into your document like images or calendars or charts or even flash animations, depending on what you had installed on your system.Notepad only has AI slop generation.

       @enigmatico@mk.absturztau.be modern notepad uses markdown, wordpad uses rtf which is btw proprietary if you did not know.Pretty different things. And in my opinion markdown is much better than some ancient proprietary microsoft format. Even if said proprietary microsoft format could do some cute things, to me this just screams vendor lock-in.Now, maybe you are not in need of a WYSIWYG markdown editor, but I would not call that without merit! Having a markdown editor like that is useful. And is something that is not an AI feature.

       @aliceif@mkultra.x27.one The point I'm trying to make here is that it can do what modern software does.Notepad is also very proprietary, which defeats the point of the format used being proprietary or not. So are the MSOffice formats used and everyone uses Office (I don't know if the new ones support ODF, I think so, but by default everyone uses docx, xlsx, etc anyways).
