@bloodravenlib As I read this over, I realize my own non-Thermos thermos thing actually has the same flaw with the lack of a pressure release valve.

@lispi314 @bloodravenlib not hot. In the original article they make it pretty clear it's an issue when you forget something inside for long enough to decompose which releases a lot of gases.

@lispi314 @bloodravenlib ok but more likely if you forgot it for long enough to get to that point, you'll forget them for much longer and will only come back after it exploded.With a sealed thermos you'll have a loaded gun waiting for you

@reiddragon @bloodravenlib I vaguely remember one's manual (like, a decade ago) recommending opening it pointed not at one's face, carefully and slowly, for hot fluids or in general, I'm not sure, in case it sprayed.

@lispi314 @bloodravenlib Though I will say one thing I just realized which is kinda funny but also potentially dangerous: as it happens, my thermos *kind of* has an unintential pressure "release" valve but only from the outside. It has a spring-loaded poppet valve-shaped thing to let you drink out of it, and just like the poppet valves in combustion engines, its sealing ability goes up with the pressure inside, but also the spring is weak enough that if the pressure is higher outside than inside, it slightly unseals and lets air in, which means you can put the thermos in a high pressure chamber thing and when you get it out you'll have a loaded gun
