       The Rise of GenAI in Educational SpacesThe rise of GenAl in "educational" spaces is particularly alarming because thought and language are not independent of one another.You don't have fully formed thoughts that you then simply ask GenAl to put into language, to punctuate, to tidy up. It's your grasp of language-and, yes, that means grammar, syntax, lexis-that allows you to form complex, subtle thoughts. A world that hands its literacy to computers is a world that, quite simply, cannot think.This is precisely why Institutions of Power want you to become dependent upon GenAl: not only so you become addicted to a product, but also so you can be stripped of your actual ability to think, while all along you imagine GenAl is just giving you a convenient way to "express" yourself or "create content." Soon enough, there will be no self to express.And then tyranny can do whatever it wants with you.And this is precisely why-instead of letting GenAl creep into classrooms on the heels of financial interests—we must teach literacy, critical thinking, ethics, the humanities and arts, all the disciplines that help every human mind develop into its unique, irreplaceable self."When," a student may ask, "will I use those disciplines?"
