Hippies in 1976? It was more likely than you think!Hippies didn't really die off until 1980, when the narrative megaphones began preparing things for the Reagan epoch.I'm convinced they killed disco and the remnants of the counterculture by main force. A mandatory vibe shift.The difference between 1980-81 and 2025-26 is the former worked.

'The sixties' as envisioned by nostalgia don't even start until 1967. Before that everything is still very conservative. Early Beatles pop tunes, not Sgt. Pepper. They start fizzling out at the same time the Vietnam War does. Nixon explicitly ended the draft to end the antiwar movement, and without the unifying fear of being sent to die the youth protests disintegrated into a hundred crackpot sects.US pulls out in 1975, Bicentennial return of patriotism is 1976, as well as the advent of the lumpenproletariat's version of liberation - disco, Star Wars is 1977, the first 'don't worry, be happy' premonition of the eighties.So the sixties were 1967-1975.

@bloggerski @KarlDahl Grunge didn’t really become a commercialized thing until 1991. 90’s music was another era that I have little affection for, despite that decade being my high school and college years.Musically, the highlight of the 1990’s was the orgy of rape and violence that was Woodstock ‘99, because it forever desecrated the name of the Baby Boomer’s most sacred experience, and it was GenX who did the job. :cat_laugh_evil:

Woodstock ‘99 sounded like a great time (except for the price gouging). 200k+ people and only three deaths (none due to violence or rioting) is actually pretty good considering they had essentially no security.Feminists hated it because boys and men were having fun.
