i am very musical by nature.as such, a thing that i do sometimes is whistle and hum at the same time. i find it very fun. i do not see it as taking much more coordination than playing a harmony and a melody simultaneously on piano, but there are some challenges in doing so. one obvious one is breath management. being able to whistle both in and out is helpful here, as is having been a prolific trumpet player in high school (i still play, rarely), since that has made breath management second nature. but it can still be difficult to coordinate syncopated rhythms.it is also not uncommon to find cases where the intervals between the notes sound fine when played individually, but don't come out well whistle-hummed, the humming effectively modulates the whistling instead of summing with it, making it sound very harsh, at some intervals, and slight variations in pitch can amplify the effect. i already have somewhat of an intuition for where this happens (its harmonic series, as always) so i have taken to adjusting usually the harmony part to pick slightly different notes that mesh a bit better.it occurs to me today that this exact same skillset probably applies to throat singing and now i want to try my hand at this

@linear@nya.social holding two melodies at once will never not be impressive to me
