@shinyjirachi @david nice! what is it like using fedora kde? ive had my eye on it for sometime now and it seems like a good distro i want to try its just that im too comfy on linux mint cinnamon to where i dont want to switch. i did try fedora kde sometime back but it was too much different from mint that i went back to mint but now im getting that itch to give it another try and maybe step up a level in my linux life since i hear some much about power users but im still not sure yet

@david have you tried linux mint or fedora linux? mint is a good one to start with and is my daily driver but i have been looking into fedora linux

@AestheticFemboy @david it's quite similar, as an OS that has sensible defaults and a great out-of-the-box experience. however, fedora has much more up to date packages, and KDE has the benefit of fine-grained customization options and even window manager scripting that allows for things like tiling and elaborate keybinds. plus the wayland support is great, if you're interested in that. fedora also has excellent security, being one of the few distros that has SELinux set up on a base install.

@shinyjirachi @david another thing is i like the name linux mint and the green color vibes of mint since it makes me think of nature but i do like the blue modern vibes of fedora linux. sometimes a name and color vibes can go a long way when it clicks for someone

@AestheticFemboy i have it mostly stock, but there are a number of themes available. anything that's made for plasma 6 will work, ofc. some themes can change the look and feel significantly. and even if you don't want to install a full plasma theme, you can customize the color scheme to your liking, change the translucency of ui elements, etc. you can easily tweak things to be just how you want, for the most part. they did drop the oxygen theme in plasma 6 tho, which i think is a shame.

@AestheticFemboy @shinyjirachi i'd say yes. I don't use Fedora anymore, but I used it 2020-2021 and on wayland, gaming was fine. It should be better now, and I know @anemone uses some Fedora based and works well for her

@AestheticFemboy actually oxygen and air are gonna be included in 6.7, which releases in june, so that's cool. i'll probably switch to that theme then, since it's my favorite.

@AestheticFemboy @shinyjirachi NixOS. Jumped between Arch and Gentoo too, but I have a very custom NixOS config that I can't really let go of (and makes soooooooooo many things easy)

@mischievoustomato @shinyjirachi ive never used any of those distros and might be too advance for me since im not a power user or do any scripting, i dont know how to even do that and not really that interested in it. lately lately ive been debating on trying fedora kde to step up a level in my linux life the only two distros i have used is zorin os and mint which is my daily driver as of now

@mischievoustomato @shinyjirachi mostly im kinda stuck in 2022 when the top distros were mint, zorin os, pop os, fedora, debain and arch. those are the top ones that have been cemented in my mind when it comes to top distros in the linux world so maybe im behind on the times

@AestheticFemboy @shinyjirachi fair enough. NixOS imo is quite complex so I wouldn't recommend it unless people are ok with the rather steep learning curve and bad documentation.

@mischievoustomato @shinyjirachi yeah i dont think that is right for me. i want a distro that works out of the box. im okay with troubleshooting if i need to thinker to get stuff set up but only if it works as it should when following a guide online. when its a headache getting stuff to work or it feels like im fighting to get the os to work right then that is a huge turnoff for me. i like linux but i also want it to just work and not be a headache

@mischievoustomato @shinyjirachi i remember trying fedora kde sometime back and i was just too shocked by how different it was to mint to where i just went back and i think i had trouble with figuring out how to install nvidia drivers for it back then so hopefully it wont be bad if i try again
