       @ariadne I signed up for the waitlist for that as well, but with atproto IIRC hosting your own PDS isn't as arduous as hosting your own ActivityPub instance. I only skimmed over it though so maybe I missed some of the advantages of going with something like northsky/blacksky instead of just hosting my own.

       @ariadne so, like migrating to a different PDS seems as involved as setting up your own PDS so what's the point if the destination is just a different "somebody else's computer"?

       @ariadne Not a complex process, just it always gets verbose when you break things down to the point the user doesn't have to fill in any blanks. The fun starts when you start to add error handling.This is why Speaker to Expensive Rocks is... odd.

       @ariadne well yeah I guess it makes sure of that, though I thought the point was supposed to be that "instance doesn't matter" and portability and blah blah.ATProto's marketing material should really contain a lot more asterisks
