@Li genuinely i think this age verification shit is the worst thing to happen to tech in the past decade. i'd argue this is even worse than the rise in telemetry and invasive advertising. every company doing this age verification shit pinkie promises that your ID won't be stored but it turns out you can just lie about that and you'll face no consequences for storing someone's driver's license unencrypted in some database for any hacker or government to grab. if a company really wants to make a trustable age verification ID check system, they should release the source code for all the components publicly... but they'd never do that, because the entire point behind this age verification shit is to get our IDs for surveillance purposes and nothing else

@mjdxp even if it was a 'completley private' system where it really is all done locally or some shit and whatever the fuck id still be very opposed to it ^its discriminatory towards anyone whom the state does not affirm the identity or or 'bless' the existence of; and makes your ability to do anything depend on a nation states approval.(like e.g alters but also other people too- like e.g homeless and children and also often trans people)also the linux foundataion is quietly trying to make a shit for this and force everyone who contributes to the kernel to do it .. and no ones talking about it, >_>

@Li true, it also discriminates against anyone who doesn't have and can't get an ID for whatever reason, such as not having a driver's license and not having the time or money to get an ID card or passport.

@Li @mjdxp another aspect to it is that people running non-standard software are often excludedeven without drm like google play integrity/aosp hw attestation, it could still be a nontrivial effort to make it work for your personal softwarebut ofc, current implementations do use drm...you're running non-google-approved or non-apple-approved hardware? sucks to be you, you're not a person

@Li @mjdxp unfortunately, with hw attestation, that is not true anymorethere are keys stored within the hardware itself that can only be used when the os is running the approved software (and the os itself is approved)
