       and I'm not even opposed to the tool in theory!  there is a lot of filler texture that having artists make is not a good use of anyone's timebut what makes creative pursuits interesting is the process of getting from concept to implementation, spending years to hone a craft

       I can even be somewhat convinced that prompting *is* a creative skill.unfortunately the people pushing the edge on prompting are largely doing so because they want unethical results like fake CSAM

       @ariadne hmm implying that one needs to "hone the craft" to make art is by itself is "problematic". For example some of the best songs have been made be utter dilettantes. Same goes for paintings.That said I do agree with you that having an artist waste lifetime on e.g. rendering 28 buttons with different text is horrible.We already have better solutions for that kind of problems and they all use a lot less resources compared to the slop generators.

       @TheOneDoc to be clear I am not saying that you have to struggle and toil and whatever for art to be validrather the point is that even if an artist is not yet experienced, they are still bringing their life experience to the table

       @ariadne unfortunately the shitty things people use ai for (replacing human artists, creating virtual csam) vastly outweigh any potential benefit that gen ai could possibly have, not to mention it is fucking terrible for the environment and they purposely build datacenters polluting the earth next to low income communities many of whom are racial minorities
