       it's so interesting to me what the local radlibs focus on as they're trying to organize"{mayor} is trying to silence {city}!" "come and make yourself heard!"like there's such a fixation on the voice and its use, not even necessarily as a tool of change, but as like. a good in and of itself.the voice as the principal point of action, with actual material difference not even framed as a *consequence* of that speech.it's like they're going on the record to say they disagree, that seems to be the primary motivation for so so many of themand like... i dunno, they aren't exactly silenced? like yeah there are some huge violations of free speech going on for journalists right now, but for the most part these folks are free to say whatever they want, on extemely public platforms. and it's good to recognise that attacks on journalists pave the way for more granular crackdowns and warping news-generated political conciousness towards fascisim, but forgive me if I don't think Ms. Jones, Aged 49, Owner of a Small Botique Soap Store has that solid of an analysis. She's responding in ways that make me think she feels like it's personal, that she in particular is in danger of the feds knocking on her door any day now because of some milquetoast posts on facebook, and this is the entire reason she participates in this kind of organizing.censorship is their nightmare, is the thing that lurks just around the corner, always close. it's the breaking-off point in their brains past which death camps (for them) are the next logical progression. fascism is when some guy tells you you can't say something. it actually reminds me a lot of the way that the actual fash reacted to people telling them they shouldn't use slurs, or public figures they feel attached to receiving consequences for doing so.part of me wonders if it's like. their flinch away from the mounting and impossible-to-entirely-miss evidence that their votes are next to meaningless? shrapnel from the implosion of the idea that they were enfranchised, that the system was meant to work for them. it's a very white way to crash out is what i'm saying
