@domi The swiss part is outdated, but when it wasn't it was actually more amusing: they could have any number of axles not divisible by 256 (I assume the risk of unnoticed train split that happened to produce a leftover piece with axle count divisible by 256 was deemed low.)

@domi German trains have a limit of 250 axles: if your train breaks down in a block guarded by an axle counter, you have to let in a recovery locomotive with 2 axles, and if that breaks down too, you have to let in another one with 2 axles, giving you another two axles of buffer until 8-bit axle counters (which basically don’t exist anymore fwiw) will exactly wrap to 0 and show the block as free (even though it’s occupied)

@nachtpfoetchen @domi the forum thread i linked has some good reasoning around this: there are only a few specific types of ore trains that can reach 250+ axles easily. almost all other trains hit the 750m limit first.
