       Banning the use of mobile phones while driving is ableist, and we can’t keep pretending it’s not. I am neurospicy (ADHD) and I need the extra mental stimulation to help me stay focused. It’s very clear that no neurodivergent people were considered when these laws were made.We need to legalise using your phone while driving.

       @yassie_j@transfem.social As a fellow neurodivergent entity (AuDHD), I must respectfully disagree here. I drive a lot, especially for Dutch standards, maybe even for American standards, currently around 1000km (620mi) per week. I do not use my phone while driving, it is on silent mode tucked into my handbag, or face down in the spot in the center console intended for placing ones mobile phone. Whenever I see someone swerving or, unfortunately quite regularly almost rear-ending another vehicle, I usually see they're on their phone. While the vehicle is in motion, even if it's very slowly, even a second of inattention can lead to an accident. So I emplore anyone, please do not use your phone while driving. Listen to podcasts instead? That's what I do. It provides the necessary neural stimulation while keeping my eyes on the road.

       @yassie_j Wouldn't that hurt sales of new cars with touchscreens? With mobile phones, older cars would stay perfectly usable.
