       You know those Brother laser printers everyone tells you to buy? This one is 7 years old, has been in bubble wrap in storage for two years, and I've never touched the toner.        @SwiftOnSecurity I think I bought our Brother laser in 2014 or thereabouts. I replaced the toner in it last year.

       @SwiftOnSecurity bought one 7 or so years ago (after battling with some other brand's one for ages and getting to the point where getting new cartridges was more expensive than getting a new printer). never let me down, built like a tank, just keeps on chugging along

       @SwiftOnSecurity I had a brother laser printer in a cupboard for at least ten years and I plugged it in and it printed straight off. They are amazing.

       @SwiftOnSecurity I have a cheap Canon laser printer that I've been using for the last 8 years. It has been working flawlessly since, with first page outputted in mere seconds.For the last 3 months it has been throwing a warning: the starter tonner cartridge it came with *may* be close to be empty. So I bought a new one. But I have not installed this new cartridge because the printer keep printing flawlessly with a "maybe empty" cartridge.This is the polar opposite of garbage inkjets.

       @SwiftOnSecurityBought me a Brother MFC-L8390CDW a few months ago. Best choice ever: works flawlessly with Linux, quality of both hardware and prints is great. And all of that for only EUR 320.Reminds me of the days of the LaserJet IIIPS printer I bought when HP still was a decent company selling decent printers.Back then every Sun workstation came with a large box filled with documentation, including the PostScript books. So I started programming my diagrams directly in PostScript 😍

       @SwiftOnSecurity 8 years ago my wife asked me, while holding her phone, “hey how can I print this?”I was bowled over by the insanity of this question. Decades of print driver trauma, suffering through a PCL printer under Linux in the 90s. It all came flooding back. Frustrated, I replied “what? From your PHONE? I can’t even begin to imagine what it would take to get printer drivers on a——“And before I could finish my thought, she interrupted “nevermind, I got it” and the printer started making happy printer noises. I WAS SHOOKStill am, TBH.

       @SwiftOnSecurity yeap, I have a very similar experiencethey're quite expensive (especially the color models) but they're so worth it to the point that theres really 0 reason to buy any consumer-grade & priced ink printers - you'll throw them away in a year, regardless of weather you use them or not (maybe theres a chance they stay alive if you print at least once a month but then the inks cost SO much that theres again 0 reasons to buy them)
