       Do you oppose political violence, or do you oppose political violence that isn't meted out by the state?Because saying the state has a monopoly on legitimate political violence doesn't make the state's violence less real, or less harmful, or less wrong.And it's often the worst violence of all.

       If your opposition to political violence is rooted solely in the identity of the wielder of that violence, if you only condemn political violence by individuals but not the state, what you oppose isn't violence, it's disorder. You don't have a moral compass, you have a comfort setting.

       @theleftistlawyer@mastodon.social Political violence should be reserved for cases when the democracy is at a real threat or under attack. People needs the right to defend their rights by force if it's the only way.I know the motivation of the attack against Trump had nothing to do with that but it's a fact that the Republican party is using the excuse of "election fraud" in the US to attempt to put pressure in the process so that they can gain as much of an advantage as possible, trough cohercion and extortion.https://www.reuters.com/investigations/how-trump-is-moving-control-us-elections-one-state-time-2026-04-27/If anything, this would be a time when the use of political violence could be justified imho.
