@sand I liked the first season. I think somewhere past their adventures with Ruijerd it started getting darker than I liked and I stopped watching it.It was fun watching him grow up and be around a loving family, but then everyone got split up and things started falling apart and I just "bleh".Just my taste, though. I appreciate its construction.

@druid So I keep thinking if I tried to watch it now, the whole premise of people being trapped and dying thing would've turned me off hard.I did watch it several years ago and enjoyed it, though. Watched AFO, watched like half of Alicization. Didn't care about GGO cuz no Kirito. Sinon is my second favorite. Then Liz. Love them all though.

@Paradox Somewhere in the later parts of Mushoku Tensei, things balance out for a while, and I got to see what true happiness looks like, even though I've never experienced it for myself:Rudeus had gotten a house, was making steady progress on helping that one girl teleport back to Earth and some other magic-focused projects, and even had a baby on the way with Sylphie.The combination of STEADY PROGRESS on what you ACTUALLY wanted and the STABILITY to potentially keep letting it happen is what I think can manifest true happiness.

@Paradox I also loved promised neverland, lol. I hardly completed the second season though, because it felt like there was huge plot holes in how they got as far as they did. The whole world felt like a lot less of a danger to them all of a sudden.

@sand I don't mind dealing with serious things, but they have to be offset with fun things.Like I'm an adult, I can deal with them as needed, but if I'm trying to enjoy a story, I don't need to put up with that shit unless it's for a good reason. I'm picky about that stuff.If a story is designed for tragedy, I don't care for it. If it balances that with levity, I can work with it. I love Black Lagoon for that reason. It's a very gritty environment but it's also very fun to watch. It's just a very different vibe from MIA and the like, you know?I could go into detail another time if that's confusing.

@sand I think something crucial here is that I don't mind tragedy as much as permanence. ReZero works great for me because, despite Subaru brutally dying several times, he always comes back to life. The drama isn't negated by that, because he still has to figure out how to navigate the danger. Plus, people around him are affected in ways that aren't always reset by him going back in time when he comes back to life.Most stories, by necessity of not having such a mechanism, have to make tragedy permanent. Now, this is all well and good, but I don't like stories such as MIA where the whole point is to make you feel like shit and cry over the characters. There are moments of levity, but I think it would still fuck me up. It's happened to me before with other stories. I know my limits. Why willingly put myself through something that'll make me feel bad? I do that to myself enough already.Also if such events never actually happen to me, it'll be too soon.

@Tengu I wanna say more than "it's aight", but I don't have much more than that.It's a good story and stuff happens (at least this applies to the movies), but it's not really interesting beyond being a good vs evil story.The Pevensies don't really offer anything unique to being from our world. If anything, Narnia does more to them, but even still it mostly just helps them grow closer together. From Narnia's perspective, they're basically immortals.It's more of a shared dream than an isekai. In the books it matters more, particularly towards the end.
