       I replaced my laser level because the battery was dead and I couldn't get it to charge. It has a USB-C port for charging, which I was using with a C-to-C cable. Tonight, when I was about to throw it out, I saw an A-to-C cable and tried it.Charging is occuring. They cheaped out on an SMD resistor that would have cost a fraction of a cent.This should be a crime.

       @ryanc eh I don’t even know how to charge the few USB C devices I have reliably any more; my current best bet is an A-to-C cable from a USB A port on a laptop, or from a specific older charger…

       @ryanc The only good thing about USB-C is the form factor. The rest of the spec is utter crap, and the implmentations are worse.

       @nuintari @ryanc even the form factor sucks, too easy to put into HDMI or even american live phase, and the thing in the middle of the socket is too fragile

       @mirabilos @ryanc I've never managed to do either of those, but I suppose it would fit.It's just a vast improvement over USB-A.Sadly, the soec allows for so many possibilities for voltages, and data only, or power only cables, which all together means not all USB-C cables are created equal.My solution is to buy known good ones from Anker, and toss the rest.

       @nuintari @ryanc nah, the A + Mini-B (not Micro!) combo was good. A slight change to the mechanical requirements for the Mini-USB sockets and plugs so they don’t release as lightly, and we’d been good. And then transfer only USB over the cables, not dozens of other protocols.
