Performance in Jellyfin 10.11.x is so friggin awful for music use.I was hoping they would've fixed it by now since we're on 10.11.8, but nope, still performs like utter ass compared to 10.10.x.And it's getting ridiculous, a simple library scan to add TWO .flac files just took me 6 hours.

Finamp, being a music focused Jellyfin app, still has a giant disclaimer warning against upgrading to Jellyfin 10.11.x.Hopefully they can figure out whatever is making it so awfully slow.

@quad something is wrong, are you sure you're not running it on crap sbc? adding a new media is also near-instantaneous for me.I'm running it on a Ryzen 5 NAS with intel dgpu for transcoding and it has direct access to FS (as opposed connecting via NFS/CIFS)

@hj What do you use Jellyfin for?The performance issues are specific to large libraries (mostly a problem for people who use music in there).And yes, my server is weak. It's an i3-9100f and my media is on spinning rust. But it still shouldn't be this awful.Nuking the entire jellyfin container and using a fresh jellyfin install does not help.

@quad for pretty much everything media, including tubearchivist integration. Only thing not in there is audiobooks (i have audiobookshelf for that)

@hj Lucky fuck. Mine is tiny by comparison.I could do a library scan in like 1 minute on 10.10.x. With 10.11.0 my library didn't even work, it was unable to read anything (actual issue, got fixed in 10.11.2 iirc) so i had to temporarily revert back. But on 10.11.3 my library scan time immediately went from like 1 minute to 1+ hour, and somehow the time gets worse with every passing week. Around 10.11.6 I tried to just nuke the whole container and use a fresh jellyfin install, but didn't really make a difference.

@quad nothing really lucky there, I intended to make a more powerful NAS and saved up for this configuration. I learned pretty quickly that services like Jellyfin require more processing power. Jellyfin on my old RPi would literally stall and starve all the other processes of their CPU time.

@hj I was planning to build a new NAS, but current market makes that hell, so I settled for buying an external 9-bay chassis instead. Then I'll upgrade the compute component sometime next year or whatever instead.I have no performance issues. But I just use it for music streaming. 10.11.x has a ton of issues (there's a groups at the top of their issues pages to keep track of them all) and apps like finamp still recommend staying clear of it.The library scan time being massively amplified is also a known issue that's been open ever since 10.11.0 landed: https://github.com/jellyfin/jellyfin/issues/15070Most of what I see are bugs. e.g I click on a song and it says "file doesn't exist", my library scan takes ages, but my load average is only 0.5 because it's obviously not actually hitting my CPU or disks. Or the favorite button seemingly working, but once I refresh, half my stuff never actually got added to favorites.

@quad Try Navidrome, it's dead simple to setup and 100% worth it. Jellyfin is OK for music, but Navidrome is made *specifically* for music.It re-scans your library in real time whenever a file is added/updated, keeps track of files that have been deleted/replaced, and deals with metadata much better than Jellyfin in my experience.

@antsu How good is the Android app?I use Finamp on my tablets and phones because it's the best app I've found for playing music from my server. (Well, Plexamp is probably fine too, but proprietary ew)I just play files in mpv if I need to listen to music, getting access to said music from my phone is the only reason my Jellyfin server exists, because Finamp needs one to connect to.

@quad There are a lot more options than for Jellyfin as far as I can tell, and I haven't tried them all, but I ultimately settled on Symfonium, which is paid (I know) but by far the most complete and polished. @antsu Might consider navidrome. I know it has a lot of apps since it uses subsonic APIs and extensions. But subsonic apps seem to have extreme turnover, very few survive any decent amount of time.Unfortunately I probably can't use Symfonium. My phone is degoogled so purchasing apps in the Play store isn't something I can do (i doubt in-app purchases would work either, never tried.)

@quad im on 10.11.5 and not curently had any issues really. But i always had trouble if my library was on a hdd in the old versionw tho
