       @risperdoll i think of it less as a retirement plan and more of a "if the collapse takes a decade or two longer than i thought" plan. (I say, having no savings anyway because I'm poor)

       @risperdoll My biggest issue with this is that most folk that I encounter want to do this in like a... "invest in their retirement" way, not a "immigrate to a new culture without becoming literally a settler in a new land" sort of way.And so this stuff becomes stuff to buy the means to do, or learn about how to do, later, when it becomes necessary. But pragmatically, continuing to invest in the way things are is usually the better bet, here-and-now.A lot of folk I know have massively backslid on this stuff since like 2020, and have every excuse to do better with 2026 inspiring the next generation *so close to their own experiences*... and treat being burnt out and traumatized as some sort of get-it-of-being-a-good-person pass, rather than an opportunity to internalize, affectively, solidarity.

       @risperdoll One thing I keep thinking about is how many folk are keen to have conversations with me about how I could regain personhood in the eyes of the state (so I can become more like them, because they feel safe and secure) and not so much conversations about how I imagine gaining more personhood for myself, because I think that would make me more safe and secure.Everyone wants to feel sad that I can't get a drivers license or food stamps, no one wants to put their name on an LLC so we can help me and others get around that particular form of oppression.And then don't see how, from my perspective, they are literally the enactor of colonial assimilation, same as a cop or politician, right there in conversation with me, because they feel like they're doing good acts of care and solidarity, and if I don't agree? Well, now they feel obliged to explain to me all the privileges that come from pursuing enslaving oneself to settlerism, because maybe I just don't get how hard my life is and how easy it could otherwise be.

       @emsenn My issues wrt living with the state/society are nowhere near that level; I am often told by others that I should go on disability for income or get a driver's licence etc to deal with being disabled but I feel that's trading one set of issues (finding a place to live in a relatively walkable area/dealing with annoying family/figuring out a way of supporting myself in a way that works for me) for others (dealing with the state giving one barely enough to live/driving (do I even need to go into this?)/dealing with "supported" work schemes)
