       @NuclearOatmeal @da_667 that one is definitely a Spicy Take in some circles. personally I have grown to find .NET is actually pretty nice? over the years I've only written odd bits of C# here and there, but it's like Java in that it's predictable enough to pick up without prior experience as long as you understand programming in a general sense and can read docs. on the other hand I have become rather well versed in the curses of PowerShell at this point, having written some decently complicated libraries at $work and despite the language being actively hostile at times, the .NET lineage is truly wonderful

       @astraleureka @da_667 Yeah, see, I'm picking up a knife if you're coming in with Power Shell. I'm not. I just feel stupid when I have to use it as it blurs the OS/app barrier for me. I like C# though. Unfortunately, I've only been doing it as a hobby since I came out here to California. Python, Perl, PHP, and gods help us, RoR at one point. It pays the rent though, so it's all good.

       @astraleureka @NuclearOatmeal @da_667 I like C# a lot. I like vanilla C also (warts and all), but ohhh boy do certain types of nerds get upset when I tell them I'd rather do C# than C++ or Java.

       @fwaggle @NuclearOatmeal @da_667 wholeheartedly agree; if I have to pick a poison, I will go with microsoft over oracle any day of the week. it feels like java and C# are interchangeable at a cognitive level, but C# feels considerably less "dirty" to me, if that makes any sense. .NET core seems to have acceptable compatibility these days. thankfully not locked into glibc-flavoured linux, musl is officially supported and there also seems to be some degree of BSD support too. the "java is the *nix native" argument doesn't hold so much water anymore. (i rarely used mono in the times before .NET core, but i recall it being widely compatible enough to the point where GNOME had GTK# bindings and even shipped some C# apps)
