@soc @zzt @rootwyrm Wayland and GTK, Gnome and systemd. Wayland kills all small desktop environments and independent window managers, funneling everyone towards Gnome, GTK forces environment-agnostic applications to become gnome specific applications via libadwaita, systemd absorbs every key service running off screen.the end goal is basically that linux becomes an IBM controlled monolith that you're allowed to look at source code to, if you really really want

@navi @soc @zzt @rootwyrm It's absolutely true, and "just rewrite your entire window manager, which was feature complete and has as such not had a major code commit in 25 years" is not a rebuttal. You're a dumbass if you think it is. Nobody has time for that, and the wayland spec emperors (they aren't developers, they expect everyone else to implement their deliberately featureless design for them) know that. They know the manpower isn't there and they see it as a feature.

@slowfallinward @soc @zzt @kyle_pegasus @rootwyrm csd is also a pain on X11 (gtk having double bars if you forced it on), and to that we blame gtk and gnomewayland has a protocol for communicating SSD vs CSD, but gtk completely ignores itas for screenshots, anything based on wlr-screencopy, or the newer ext-image-copy would work (e.g. grim), though more full featured "all in one" screenshot tools are lacking yes
