       @WoodshopHandman @disclosetv @BionicNigga H-2B is different from H-1B. They are seasonal and have no path to green card and subsequently citizenship. Deportations were always going to have short-term negative economic consequences and this seems like a play to balance that.

It's specifically for non-agriculatural blue collar jobs, which basically means housekeepers for Disney World in the summer not jobs Americans spent 4 years and thousands of dollars to obtain.To be clear, I'm not sure if I agree with the play myself or would rather just take the short-term hit. See for instance the separate J-1 visa for summer camp staff.  For summers, both visas are denying younger folk first/early jobs that can be key to a long, successful career including ones that gatekeep with a college degree.  I have a brother who's an example of that sort of thing.Only specific counter-example I can think of is maybe hiring for some short term, high intensity agricultural jobs, like removing meat from Maryland caught blue crabs.

However, as we learned during COVID, the American economy is much like a bicycle in that if you put a stick between the spokes, you fall over. But slowly applying the brakes can keep the ride stable.Young people aren't conditioned to take up those jobs. They're basically told to either go to college or enlist. It would only take a year or two with higher wages to change that mindset, but unfortunately we live in a democracy where a year or two of bad economics could impede other larger goals.
