@thing i think calling helix slop is a bit over the top, but most certainly not a very helpful descriptor. out of over 7700 commits made in the lifetime of helix, a singular one, made on march 14th, was co-authored by claude. yeah, it sucks that that happened, but i really do not think that this makes the entirety of helix "slop"

@stilic @thing And this is also not how projects become more accepting of LLMsIt's how discussion gets sparked around this happening, and it engages individuals to push for a policy which bans this from happening. And the fact that that is happening is good! But in the terms of the quality of the software? A single commit of regular size being co-authored by an LLM is largely insignificant. What is significant, in my opinion, is making nuanced discussions about the topic as a whole very hard by conflating and calling things names in a way that doesn't help anyone or anything

@star @thing you're not going to have software at all for much longer with the standard of "if anyone touched an ai and touched this then its entirely spoiled forever"the very large models are competent enough now at very minor tasks that a lot of the very high ranking code monkeys are starting to tolerate them in limited quantity, so that stance is starting to lose its foundation pretty hard.(i say this as someone who has never paid for claude code.)

@stilic @thing I mean, who the hell does it help to call things "slop" that have obviously been created with more hard work and dedication than a lot of us have ever put into anything? It's extremely important to criticize the usage of AI here and everywhere else, and I think it is extremely valid to be upset about this happening and make that heard! That's how change actually happens! But just calling something "slop" and moving on isn't at all how you create change. It's how you alienate those you are trying to bring to your side
