@mona @MacGuffin have you seen the fucking TMNT set? It's atrocious.And there will be a Hobbit one later this year (who will they race swap and turn black this time?), and then a fucking Marvel set and a Star fucking Trek set and.TMNT was a complete failure, but unfortunately I think the Marvel and Hobbit sets will sell well, so they'll keep doing this shit.

@mona @MacGuffin also, this year there will be more Universes Beyond slop than actual Magic sets.The worst part is that the actual sets are pretty cool. Lorwyn is an interesting scenario, Strixhaven is a bit more than a "Harry Potter clone", and that Reality Fracture also promises to be very interesting.But there is all that trash and slop in the midst.

@MacGuffin @mona It's pretty shitty.There was another TCG called Altered that looked pretty cool, but it died a couple weeks ago due to some very shitty decisions of the company (and when I went to look at it, I discovered that some of the shitty decisions made the game not be as cool as I thought).There is another one that is pretty much alive called Sorcery: Contested Realm, which looks like everything M:tG should have been. But unfortunately it's pretty small, and almost impossible to get the cards in here, AND literally impossible to find other players where I live. Around here is Magic, Pokémon, Yu Gi Oh or One Piece.

@s8n @mona @MacGuffin nah, I actually think that M:tG in it's first years was pretty cool, and most of the problems it has stem from the "modern design" and WotC need to powercreep cards to incentivize people to buy the new sets.Of course, Magic always had some problems, most of them derived from Richard Garfield retardation, like the stupid idea that cards can be balanced by their rarity and scarcity.I started playing in the Urza block, and the entire period between that and right before Mirrodin was a pretty cool time to play Magic, and was when some cool formats were created by players, like Pauper (allowing only common cards) or Elder Dragon highlander (when you were supposed to use an actual Elder Dragon as your main card instead of any random legend).

@s8n @mona @MacGuffin and the Urza block was what, 4 or 5 years after the game first launched in Alpha, tops. Mirrodin was at around the 10 year mark, and in Mirrodin they had already jumped the shark, IMO.

@Suzu @mona @MacGuffin urza was 5 or 6 years after alpha and mirrodin was 5 or 6 years after urza and realistically nobody who played mtg is going to put that kind of effort into another game with a shelf life
