Did we just made a Schottky diode?Al on n-doped Si. Random Fe contacts to Al and Si to measure. Positive lead to Si, negative to Al.X = V (2V per division)Y = I (100mA per 1V, so 5mA per division.)(the I/V curve is a composite image of two waveforms)Si has its protective oxide layer forcefully removed using abrasive methods (ie. sandpaper [!] - still working on being able to handle HF safely). Not sure if it matters, but the Al is thermally evaporated aluminum foil from EDEKA.

@fafoso cool!do you plan to measure its (differential) capacitance vs voltage when reverse-biased?

@wolf480pl @fafo We could do that, but I'm not sure how involved the test setup is...FWIW this was just a simple test that we did spontaneously with the tools/materials we had - not sure spending much time qualifying the results makes sense?

@fafo@social.fa-fo.de lol EDEKA coming in clutchDid you do a comparison with uncoated Si to check that the diode is being formed at the Si-Al interface and not the Si-Fe interface with the clips? That’s certainly a promising I-V curve, super cool to see!

@xeno Yes, I checked already, Fe/Si/Fe seems ohmic, maybe with a _slight_ nonlinearity - but not nearly as pronounced as Fe/Al/Si/Fe above. But it's difficult to get a low resistance path to measure that well right now...~q3k

@fafo @xeno (more measurements and verification will follow, but we need to get a better curve tracing and probing setup - this was all quick and dirty)

@fafo@social.fa-fo.de An X-Y-Diagram of Voltage against Current would be nice to see, but I don't know if your oscilloscope is capable of it (basically a two channel image)
