@stux in some of my former engagements, before AI, I had companies hire my team to fix all the issue that the previous cheapest bidder team had left. I charged them through the nose for this, and for the most part our team would need to replace much of what the previous team had created and write it from scratchp in some cases they had tried to mess with the previous team and there wouldn't be any source codeI wouldn't usually provide support it afterwards, unless they wanted a support contract, and I would train someone to take it over after we delivered it, so they would be able to have continuity of business

@stux reminds me of back in the late 1990s/ early 2000s there was a massive push to "outsource" your development to cheaper, offshore development houses who worked for a fraction of the cost.The slop many of them produced gave me work for years clearing up the mess these companies got themselves into.You get what you pay for. If a solution seems far cheaper or easier, you're most likely missing its true cost.

@stux It'll be the same as when you bid for a project, and you lose, and the job goes to the lowest bidder, and they screw up, and the client calls you in to fix it a few months later.One's normal approach, having looked at the code, is to say "well, maybe we could fix it, but you really don't want us to, because a rewrite from scratch would be quicker and cheaper - here's our original bid, upped a bit because you've pissed us around".And the customer almost always says "no no, it's nearly finished, we just need you to fix the last few bugs." And if you care about your reputation in the industry you walk away.

@stux something ive noticed is a lot of software products that used to work fine have gotten subtly worse over the las 4 years or so. YouTube and Tidal are some examples. weird bugs, poor performance at strange times for no apparen reason, etc. i‘d bet that some of these are a direct result of widespread vibecoding adoption.
