       Someone on a Facebook tech group posted a pic of a mangled preproduction 68040RC33 and said they pulled a bunch of pins off when they were 9 BeCaUsE GoLD!!!! and were now trying to rehab the CPU, **of which there may never be any more made**.

       Someone asked, “but did you get much gold?”What the fuck kind of question is that? Of course they didn’t. Any individual CPU or board has a negligible amount of gold, only people with **medically-actionable pathologies** will obsess over how much gold they could possibly yield relative to their worth as functioning pieces of technology.

       Seriously, if your first thought when looking at a board or CPU or other piece of technology is “How much gold is in that?” then you need to find a psychiatrist before you destroy something irreplaceable.#retrocomputing
