@sun i'm pretty sure the reason why you can't get a good printer normally is because the FBI/CIA/whatever really doesn't want people having access to printing capabilities without the yellow tracking dots. they've struck deals with printer manufacturers to not print without yellow ink, and i'm guessing they require DRM cartridges for similar reasons.though i doubt they can stop people from DIYing their own printers into existence. i doubt they can even make it illegal.

@sun @mischievoustomato When my brother was studying printing we spoke about how to do this, and the only issue we had was the chemistry of the ink.That aside the only way to avoid getting caught is to laundry the bills in farmer markets by buying food and keeping the change, the food you can either give it to charity or give it to animal/throw it away in a forest it will compost (no proof), you can also buy bigger stuff like tools etc... and sell it back but it's higher risk.Rinse and repeat while moving, especially in summer farmer markets are everywhere.Cash in such context tend to not be cashed in banks. For extra safety you can always wear disguises. The only issue for the distribution would the vehicle/plates if they try cross find possible data with spreading zones of the fake bills. Maybe if you get one from another EU country.

@sun @sand Inkjets are proven to death they can last decades (still have ma fam's first inkjet from 1998 and it still works), toner/laser issue's is the drum if not made of ceramic it will die quickly, otherwise I've seen black only hp laserpro printers being in service for 20 years. Wax printing has the advantage you don't need to heat up the material so high.Otherwise yes all parts wear out but that depends on the specs of the materials you want to use, recent printers are landfill quality.

@ElDeadKennedy @mangeurdenuage @sun Maybe I don't actually want to know the answer to "What the fuck do you need a whole-ass raspberry pi to run a printer?" and just want to be shocked and flabbergasted instead.Although, no chance you need the GPU blobs if it's stuffed in there. It's probably just receiving commands over serial, USB, or network, and then actuating the shit over GPIO, so... maybe it'll work with the free boot firmware? Astounding that the most tinkered with and documented single-board computer has this many questions hanging over it, actually unbelievable.

@mangeurdenuage @sand @sun Unless you print at least once a month, Inkjet printers die within 4 months from the ink drying up and clogging the printhead.Modern inkjets are designed to waste ink, with a limited waste ink sponge capacity that is designed to prevent you from removing the sponge, cleaning it and putting it back and having it work.Decent black-only single-sided printers have few moving parts and therefore have few parts to fail - most of the moving parts are also in the toner cartridge.

just get an ink tank printer, mine is an hp 5820 from before the epstein commissioned pandemic and it still is going strong, i don't even buy hp ink, just buy the cheapest ink bottles and use the hp ink bottles to refill the printer.

@jeffcliff @sun Both the hardware design and the software use a proprietary license (one CC-*-NC-* license I can't remember).Printers are currently restricted by a huge amount of patents, but a basic printer would likely avoid most of them.
