I wanted to do some coding today but I found it annoying to always have to cd with a new terminal first.I decided to try and get my Sway window manager to open terminals with the focused window's current working directory instead of always being in ~/.I ran into a bug where it only works if there is a program running in the terminal otherwise it defaults to home and I couldn't get that fixed no matter what I tried so I just gave up and did nothing all evening.I think it's some weird race condition or something.ty4yattm

@WandererUber Which file manager are you using? It would be trivial to add it as a context menu option for nemo, and may be the case with, whatever you are using

learning ranger.Sway is a tiling wm and I'm not opening terminals from the file manager I'm opening them with mod+Return from anywhere.sort of related: for the longest time, Thunar has had this bug/feature where you can't open a terminal in the folder if you have a file selected which is colossally annoying.

@WandererUber @hazlin nemo has a really gay bug where if you disable that “feature” in gnome-terminal where new windows open in the same directory, the context menu command that says “open in terminal” will just open it in your home directory. It's really gay because I'm tired of tinkertrooning with lf and just want to use a normal file manager.

my problem is that I want something that is fast to use and doesn't piss me off and even if you learn all the hotkeys, a mouse-first floating wm is pissing me off at this point. everything is ten times as slow as it could be because they don't even use any of the thousands of innovations of video games, like for example selection wheels (CS:GO buy menu) or any other conveniences. everything just feels ass, and on a fucking trackpad it's ten trillion times worse.So I'm on the same river but in a different boat from you, going the opposite way I guess. I want to learn ranger and nvim and stuff because I can not fucking stand how everything just pisses me off these days.When I'm on windows or another floating gui, I just put basically everything to fullscreen. There is no application more complicated than paint or notepad that allows you to get work done when it's not fullscreen. Or you buy a 10x bigger monitor, which is fullscreen with extra steps.

@mikuphile @WandererUber I'm always open to a better file manager. Started with Thunar, is would crash, nemo is a step up from that. And, nemo_actions are great. Instead of opening a terminal in the folder, I use context awareness to perform the desired actions on the files I most commonly use.

You had an array, not a line, of workspaces so it was easier to navigate if you organized it well. I miss it but I am done with tinkertrooning so I just use whatever came with troonix mint.

Anyway I decided to nuke my artix installation when it broke for the gorillionth time and I got tired of maintaining it. Although I still have to tinkertroon by manually compiling libraries whose package in the package manager is too outdated. But there is stuff that conflicts with my requirements and in that case I'll try to remove it. For example, I nuked kikewire/pulseaudio because they get in the way if you use ALSA which you need if you want low latency (I'm a rhythmgamefag), and its only worth is letting you play audio in the browser. (Everything else supports it natively. )I would also like to nuke (((grub))) and go back to efistub because (((grub))) won't respect my kernel command line arguments. I tried to set efistub up again the other day but it wouldn't boot so I'll leave it alone until I next want to change my kernel's command line arguments.
