       If there’s one thing I find interesting about slop images is that it makes me wonder how our vision works. Many slop images look fine if you don’t pay a lot of attention, some don’t even look off, but if you look closely often many details don’t make sense. Your brain really fills in a lot of stuff!

       @h5e I think this is not just about vision? E.g. slop text also often looks fine if you don't pay a lot of attention and don't try to actually read it.

       @IngaLovinde hmm you mean random words? Such as lorem ipsum that is very text-like but nonsense? Definitely true for that although I find it “feels” different. Or text in slop images which can have character-like features except not being actual characters (mainly in older slop)? Because that I think is more the visual part.

       @h5e but I was thinking more of generated texts that contain zero even perceived substance. You look at it and it looks like a real text. You read it and at some time later you realize that you reached the end but cannot remember any details. Several hours later, you cannot even remember what it was about. You stay looking close at it and analyzing it, and the illusion falls apart, just like it does with pictures.

       @h5e There was this older person working in fashion advertisement. And he decided to replace real glam shots with models with AI generated stuff.And the CTR dropped by 40% instantly. The demographics showed it was mainly younger people that chose not to interact with the ads anymore.He was surprised, as he couldn't see a difference between the real shots and the AI junk. So they did interviews and found out that younger people instinctively react to unreal light situations and unrealistic shadows.They switched back to real pictures and the CTR went up again.
