       Me: Moon exploration is not broadly useful. We know there's little there for us. Give us the asteroids and L5 instead. Sure, loop the moon as a test flight, but plan future missions with an eye towards growth.Also me: HOLY CRAP WE'RE GOING TO THE MOOOOON

       @mwl the moon is like the Wall Drug of space (except the pecan logs will kill you. wait. that's just like Wall Drug). you go there because it's the main rest stop on a long road to somewhere else with fuck all else inbetween. would you stop at Wall Drug given another option? no, probably not, but you can still have fun while you're there.

       @mwl l2 is metastable and requires costly propellant top-off. The lunar dust is a challenge for engineers. I trust engineers to solve it.
