       The World Trade Organisation remains neutered by conflict; this weekend's meeting intended to revive the WTO stumbled on a dispute between Brazil & the US on the extension of the e-commerce tariff moratorium - Brazil wanted to limit the extension of free trade in e-commerce to juts another four years, the US wanted it to last longer....It looks like one more area where the interests of US & Big Tech have scuppered hopes for regulatory stability for developing countries!#WTO #trade h/t FT

       @ChrisMayLA6 Well, it may be that other institutions comment to being to negotiate trade internationally and the WTO, which is still largely an animal of the US and the west will lose influence

       @GhostOnTheHalfShell Hmmm... I've always seen the WTO as a bit maligned in that sense; it is certainly undermined by US actions (not least of all the continued problems with the Appellate Court caused by the US), but it has always had the ability (sometimes enacted) to be a much more democratic membership organisation - which is exactly why the US in the last decade has been working against its successful operation

       @ChrisMayLA6 I’m pretty negative on the various organizations involved in global trade.When countries are made to dismember their own economic, sovereignty and dumb, allow themselves to be disassembled and turned into cogs it has never really worked out well.Countries like China I don’t think ever lost control of their own country
