@EeveeEuphoria @cobra @rpmrosie hold on now, what antidepressant? we don’t know that it has anything to do with the same receptors or anything. I don’t know of any antidepressants that are dangerous to use with cannabis.

THC’s action is on the cannabinoid receptors. it secondarily results in increased dopamine production. but we don’t advise to avoid anything else that provokes dopamine production while on a dopamine-acting antidepressant. certain antidepressants (far from the norm) such as bupropion act as dopamine reuptake inhibitors. this effect would not be antagonistic with a substance that causes increased production of dopamine, its role is to increase the amount of dopamine available to our neurons, and at this these two substances are synergistic.in fact very few drugs have negative interactions with cannabis (though it’s always good to research first when trying a new combination) due to it acting on its own dedicated receptors. and few antidepressants do anything to dopamine, and absent an existing dopamine-related condition like psychosis, there is little cause for concern even with a drug that does affect dopamine, unlike for instance combining drugs that act on serotonin.

@cobra @rpmrosie @EeveeEuphoria the transmitter being talked about when I got here was dopamine :akko_tired: bottom line, cannabis doesn’t directly affect the same receptors as any other antidepressant, but they can secondarily effect the same neurotransmitters yes, but serious interactions are extremely rare, the most common negative interactions being depression and anxiety which cannabis can cause on its own. so yes be aware of that chance when using cannabis in any unfamiliar context, but there’s no need to automatically avoid it just because of taking an antidepressant.
