       @elilla Hah, on a technicality I can now tell you about the sole stroke of genius I ever experienced.The movie Blade Runner‘s title got localized into Polish as Łowca Androidów – so “Android Hunter” or maybe “Tracker”. This sucks, but of course Blade Runner is an extremely hard to translate title, so what can you do…Have a stroke of genius, that’s what! The better translation, which came to me as probably the only moment of absolute clarity I’ll experience in my whole life, is Pogłowny. Why is that a good translation? Multiple reasons of course!First of all, even if someone wouldn’t follow the rest of my reasoning it at least contains “łowny” which is a word that at least refers to hunting (“zwierzyna łowna” is “game animals”), so worst case scenario this is no worse then the usual translation. Well, that’s not entirely true, unfortunately I have on good authority that the word “pogłowny” mostly sounds goofy, but shhh….Secondly, this is an actual translation of the original title! “Głownia” means the blade of a sword, “po” means “over”, so someone who “biega po głowni”/“runs over a blade” could very well be referred to as a “pogłowny”, so yeah, “Blade Runner”, yay!But that is not all! What is the actual job Decard does? Well there are these androids, treated as subhuman, who sometimes escape and he has to hunt them down. Controlling the population of this livestock. The Polish word for a population of a livestock herd? “Pogłowie”. This means that this translation is better than the original title, since it also more accurately describes the main character’s job. I’m telling you, I got blessed with this single stroke of genius, now I have to live with the certainty that I’ll never again reach such peaks.Anyway, my favourite Polish (not really) word is “pogłowny”. :3
