@stux It depends on whether the phone app or the website is more shit, and whether I have to research anything. Researching anything on a mobile device is getting worse because both Apple and Google are making their operating systems more aggressive about killing background processes which kills any transactions in flight. So you really need two devices.It also explains why in Star Trek you get people juggling a handful of tablets.

@stux definitely. Some things ask for research, comparing stuff. Big screen with multiple windows, proper keyboard and no autocorrect for searching the right things...Like shops don't give me the full search result on the phone - just limited options. And I bet my ass - not the cheapest ones!So yeah, very few purchases are phone purchases for me.Next thing to our horror will be: "why don't you let your AI assistent buy that for you?"

@stux at one point, I watched, in existential horror, as an acquaintance bought a used car, financed, on her phone.Yes, I twitched, a lot. Then, I drove her to the place, to sign paperwork and pick the newER wheels up.That was a couple of years ago. I haven't recovered, yet.

@stux When I buy something expensive and/or with too many options, I prefer the "computer purchase" because I don't want to regret later about something that was too small or off screen - "accepting the purchase you hereby transfer to the flight operator the rights to change the destination to any country of the world, including war zones and areas under environmental risk. @stux my rule of thumb is, if it's going to require 2fa, I do it on my computer, because if I try to do it on my phone, by the time I swap out from the browser to the email/messager/other client or whatever to deal with the authentication, fucking android will have cannibalised the browser process for memory, and by the time I get back to the browser it will have reset the page DOM and lost all its fucking session state and I have to start again.

@stux Sometimes mobile websites or apps will move things. Like full descriptions of items on the eBay app. You have to click something to see the (usually inadequate) description on mobile. On desktop it's all on the same page.I only order food for delivery and small stuff at Amazon on my phone.

@stux Same… but it’s not the *size* of the purchase per se, but the complexity: I’m not willing to choose from different flights, compare prices, choose a thousand options while doing the perceptual equivalent of peering through a keyhole for as long as I have a choice.

@stux Up to a certain point this does make sense. Depending on the device you use, prices may differ. By using a Mac/iphone in some cases you can increase the price of a purchase. The good 'ol PC could save you some money. An older android device might do the same trick.

@stux The only things I will - reluctantly - buy from my phone is things I've bought before, from the same vendors. Mobile internet is shit; I've felt that from day 1, even though I built my first responsive website before the iPhone came out. Everything is a compromise enforced by the fact that the screen is too small to be practical for almost anything & that elevates the risk of missing something important, so I'll rather not commit to anything until I have a better interface 😁

@stux it's true. You need a decent computer with a screen to avoid making mistakes and cross validate your order and purchase. I also don't like to use my phone for that.
