       so now i guess i have to weigh the options of bothering to migrate all my rules, or to just try putting VyOS on the router again, which is something i've wanted to do for quite a while but too lazy

       @quad I had 70 something rules on mine and it all migrated fine. The new interface isn't too bad (it does need a two row style because all in one row is a bit cramped).Is there a problem you're hitting or another reason the migration seems bad?

       @gibwar according to firewall -> diagnostics -> statistics -> rules -> filter rules, the numbers seem to go from 0 to 160, so i guess that means I have about 160 rules including the auto-generated ones

       @quad that's similar to what I have (7 interfaces with one of them being wireguard) and the auto thing went smoothly for me. I downloaded the csv, was amused by it, uploaded it, and disabled (not deleted) all my "legacy" rules so I could roll back easily. After a week with no issues I deleted the legacy rules and like the view and filtering of the new one.Only complaints with the new one is it's a little slower to load all the rules and it's a bit cramped if you don't have a wide space to view it, which is why I think it could benefit from a two-row style of viewing the information.
