       Apparently the BBC are lobbying to make the TV loicense compulsory even for paid for streaming services like Netflix. That means no only are you paying Netflix directly, but the BBC want you to pay for a loicesnse that has nothing to do with the streaming service. Alternatively they have entertained the idea of requiring UK citizens to enter their TV loicense ID into aforementioned, unrelated streaming services to view the totally unrelated to BBC content.No loicense, no media at all.

       @amoonrabbit fwiw, aiui that was always the point of the TV license. It wasn’t a “BBC services subscription”, it was “the free market turns everything to slop, so tax (except not exactly tax because in principle it’s ring fenced revenue) the slop and use the proceeds to produce things that actually benefit society”Not that they’re currently succeeding at the latter, but that’s more of a governance rather than finance problem.
