I will add one more thought on the government and internet more generally speakings move toward demanding ID and/or forcing users to login or otherwise jump through hoops to access web sites/content/services/etc. You can fuck off. I don't care if your Linux Mint, Microsoft, New Egg, Walmart, Amazon, or similar. And yes- my company is a leading sponsor of Linux Mint project, and yes, Linux Mint uses a shitty firewall solution that basically blocks Tor users and possibly users of VPNs (and I believe the company is also a sponsor of the Linux Mint project which is why they won't stop using it sadly).While I can't claim my company is perfect (it's far from perfect) I can tell you it's a thousand times better in every respect than the trash that amounts to what makes up the internet today.We DO NOT demand people login to browse our catalog, we DO NOT firewall off every user we can't ID (ie looking at you Linux Mint, and I like Linux Mint for the most part, they otherwise have done a lot of good for desktop GNU/Linux even if I would change a few things), we DO accept Monero (even if it's a little bit more of a hassle, hopefully something we find time to improve upon at some point), we DO NOT demand ID to checkout.I know this is probably like the first and only time I've posted a link to my companies website ... ever. Rest assured no one here voted for Trump or Biden and we didn't stop doing business with Canadians over the tariffs or retaliatory tariffs.The Trump tariffs on the US side were also already struck down by the US supreme court if you hadn’t heard. Trump responded with instituting a reduced15% global tariff (this part is legal, but only temporarily) that expires ~July 24, 2026. To extend that would require congressional approval which I sure as hell hope Trump won't get.I currently advocate for NHexit (that is the state I live in exiting the US, whether or not it would actually ever happen, trying to leave sends a message even if the US invades New Hampshire after a declaration of independence). I support your resistance to Trump’s tariffs, but I’d also encourage you to consider the ramifications of blind action rather than tailored actions. Most US companies suck as do most companies period. Boycotting US companies shouldn’t be hard. So do that, but don’t do it blindly. You can both send a message while supporting small number of small US businesses you want to support because they’re doing what is actually in your interest. There are plenty of Canadian companies that you should probably also try to boycott. Thinking of some of the grocery chains up north in particular, but it’s not like you have a decent option when it comes to ISPs and plenty of other large Canadian companies suck too. I boycott umm pretty much every major company these days to whatever extent I can. Else I mitigate damage via getting stuff from a lesser evil.
