I never thought I'd be asking this but does anyone have a USB "microscope" to suggest that has a decently long working distance and really small head?I'm thinking about how I'm going to record/livestream my reworkctf v2 playthrough and the microscope I have on the mill is not set up to record video, and I have no easy path to change that.So I'm wondering about just adding a second macro/closeup view off to one side looking at the work area and hopefully not in the way of anything else. With the microscope, light, milling column, and dust collection it's already gonna look like the inside of a SEM/FIB chamber, what's one more imaging axis? lol

@azonenberg But if you're off-axis, won't depth of field be an issue ?I don't have a USB one, I'm using a HDMI one as my "daily driver" (lower latency) and although I'm happy with it and it has a good working distance (especially with 0.35x barlow lens added), it's also fairly shallow DoF.

@tnt If I went with HDMI I'd need a separate capture card but it could be doable.DOF is always going to be an issue there will be a narrow strip of the area in focus at any given time. But I have the same problem in the actual microscope.

@whitequark I'm trying to get a second camera angle for this setup (old photo I have a gooseneck light now, but otherwise about the same).Vias are 1mm pitch IIRC

@whitequark basically the 12 o'clock position is blocked by the mill column, 6 o'clock by the microscope, 2 o'clock by the light, there's a dust collector around 5 o'clock not visible in this shot, and around 9 o'clock is the only plausible position for the second camera

@whitequark Long term my plan is to upgrade this microscope with one that has the ability to do video capture but it's not trivial because of the angles involved, the normal "trinocular port sticking out the top of the camera" is not compatible with the fact that I'm kinda running the microscope half upside down in this angled setup, the camera would be jabbing into my torso

@azonenberg this microscope has UVC streaming, a very wide focus range (from literally millimeters from the lens and down to the board being distantly on the desk) and an incredibly good 4K camera, but the display might get in the way for you https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005009048953534.htmlthe actual "tube" of the microscope (the illuminator can be taken off) is 35mm in diameter

@whitequark hmm yeah i was really hoping for something more like 1-2cm diameter. and the attached display is definitely a no-go given the space constraints

@lasse I want one of those lenses, but i'm not sure I would want it in close proximity to a spinning endmill flinging debris around. it's a little expensive for that.Now if I could get a $100 lens with worse image quality? I'd beat the hell out of it and not feel bad about doing so.

@lasse Those will help (if you can get one small enough for a probe lens like that).But a snapped carbide endmill might still go through one?Anyway, I got the cheap thing because it was $40 so hard to go wrong. I expect the images to be crap, the level of crap will determine if I try to upgrade or accept this as my mill camera for the near term.
