       @totenlegionChris the IP changes just before the portal opens again. So if you overrode the TTL / copied the record into your hosts, you can keep using it until the next time the domain works again.

       @totenlegionChris People who connected while it was resolving can keep their existing connections open.This could be a chat, or a forum, or website with a daily puzzle, a MUD, or a minecraft server.Then people would be surprised that someone disconnected after hours, and was able to reconnect. They learn about /etc/hosts.It's not about finding an optimal way to implement a game mechanic. It's about showcasing a real-life mechanic by turning it into a game.

       @pmevzek I specifically chose 2 periods 12h apart so that no matter in which timezone you go to sleep and wake up, you should be able to catch one of those windows
