       Oh wow, didn't catch this: It seems like there are reports that Iran has begun mining the Straight of Hormuz. So, the Trump regime decides to kill Iran's leaders, bomb it's military as much as it can, then blow up it's oil production and shipment abilities (Iran accounts for like 1/6th of global supply) and Iran responds by attempting to stop the flow of like 1/5th the globe's oil and a good deal of its fertilizer.

       @piggo Nooo! That's the thing, with a global economy in free fall nobody's going to have the huge capital adjustments to go green, and everyone everywhere is going to try to be going green all at once to minimize their dependence on oil which is certainly a much scarcer resource. Also trying to just grow crops without fertilizer.

       @piggo Some countries that have already made major investments in energy independence, electrification and switching cars over to electric are going to reap benefits, but only comparatively so. In absolute terms everybody's going to take a hit.

       @piggo there's this big pile up of boats on either side of the Straight of Hormuz and if they can't get moving from one side to the other without blowing up soon, there's going to be these huge and very consequential effects. One is that there's really not enough LNG to go around and you can't really strategically stockpile it in the same way you can oil.

       @piggo A bunch of the Gulf states are going to run out of places to put oil and gas products and then they're going to have to shut down production and that is not quick to restart.

       @piggo Lets us say the US goes all in and launches a massive ground invasion of Iran aimed at regime change and direct governance. You still have to demine the straight and prevent anybody with a grudge at the US regime (which is all of Iran at this point) from say launching some ballistic missiles at desalination plants.

       @piggo Assuming you do this really rapidly and somehow manage to pull it off, I still don't think you do it quick enough to prevent the economy from cratering and once it's cratered and everybody is laid off - well, it sort of becomes a self-fulfilling process.

       @piggo If Iran can effectively shut down the strait for just a little while longer they're going to have caused huge shock waves to ripple out across the global economy and make the whole world pay for tolerating Trump's insane attack on their nation. This is what the world gets for allowing an evil, mad king to gleefully play around with the world's largest military force.
