Idk about the extensible part, but kate and/or gnome builderboth have vim bindings and especially kate is a very solid text editor which I never really had to extend at all since it did everything i needed

@fiore @coolbean @lizzie in vi, dw selects the delete action and then selects a word to delete. kakoune just flips the two steps so you can see the selection being made before committing to deleting it.
