       The #Space1999 models were magnificent. The Season 1 sets were cool. Young Lucas felt like Moonbase Alpha could be real.They put so much love into the sets and props, they forgot to hire scriptwriters. That's why I preferred Trek, even though it felt much less real.I still have a "Space 1999 by way of Stephen Baxter" book on my project list, if I live long enough.

       @mwl I can 100% agree season 2 was worse in almost every way, especially losing the absolute banger of a theme tune.I don't think *all* of Space 1999 season 1 was worse than *all* of any Star Trek series (except maybe the best one, Lower Decks)But I love the roasting in the comic and it is 99% fair.

       @mwl Hmmm. Take a bunch of screenshots from the pilot episode and put them into a slideshow that showcases the aesthetic while broadly outlining the plot, then give it as a writing prompt to a (good) writer who's never seen the show.

       @suetanvil @mwl I enjoyed Space: 1999 for what it was. But man, a modern reboot with a serial story could really be great.  The way BSG did.  (Space: 1999 really needed a lot more therapy for the "we are never going home!" crisis.)

       @mwl OT: I just rewatched "Court Martial", where Kirk is in court. A favorite scene, where Elisha Cook, Jr. (an underappreciated actor) talks about preferring books to the "homogenized" knowledge of the computer, plays so much differently in the age of LLMs.
