       @aliceamour I make dal regularly. If I were making that, I cook the spices last, in a second pan, and pour into the dal (and mix) just before serving. I also usually put bay leaves in mine. I'm sure it's fine like that, there are so many ways to make dal, but a suggestion for a variation
