@delta I've searched in your doc and UI, but without success. Is there a way to revoke my keys? I'd like to stop using #Deltachat and prevent people from writing me there. Is it possible?

@julien there is no key revocation. If you want to stop using Delta Chat you can just un-install it. If you are in group chats, it's nice for the others to leave group chats before deinstall.

@delta @julien this seems like something that should be in the docs, the concept of deleting an account is pretty fundamental. There being no mechanism to signal that an account is no more seems like a issue that should be addressed regardless.

@liaizon @julien see https://delta.chat/en/help#remove-account -- if you delete your profile from your devices nobody will have the private key anymore. The addresses (if on a relay) are going to stop existing after some time. There is virtually no residue then.

@delta Fair. But I'm one of those early users. So the address will continue to function since it's my private email address that all my contacts know and will still use. I thought there might be a mechanism to announce to contacts that have my public key that it has been revoked. That's not such an unusual thing for gpg keys. @liaizon

@julien @delta wouldn't it be possible to add a new relay, wait for it to propagate and then remove the old mail address?You'd be using a chatmail server for deltachat, but if I get you right that would not be an issue.

@mray Thought about this. A bit cumbersome, but maybe the only way. Curious what @delta thinks about this and how long this whole process needs to take to be effective.

@julien @delta I basically did the same thing, regarding it as a crutch. But actually this is a power-move I'd love to see in proper e-mail: not depend on my provider OR my domain, holding my own identity in my own hands.So far I'm happy with adding minimal server load on random peoples servers. And it is a totally hot-swappable move: nobody even notices.You just need to send at least one message to people with the updated relays for them to find you on "their own". (You could still reach them even after hard switching, too :P)

@julien @delta OH! I see. Not sure how this can be possible. By default the only way to write somebody in DeltaChat is secure, unless you send plain email – that's nothing you can stop anybody to do.Or is your concern that people write you encrypted but it never gets decrypted by you as you stopped using DeltaChat?

@mray It's my understanding that it's good practice to revoke keys once you stop using them. People should not use revoked public keys to encrypt messages. I realize that there is no builtin mechanism in DC for this. That's my concern. @delta

@delta Since you bring in Signal, Signal tells you when a contact has left and prevents you from messaging them. I don't know the underlying mechanism they use. @mray

@julien @mray ah yes, you also get messages bouncing with delta. But signal is not doing key revocation when it removes a phonenumber from it's system. It's similar to how a chatmail relay removes your address.
