       @sourcerer Perl is still alive because people keep using and maintaining it. 🙂 People use it because it's good at various practical tasks, scaling from very small (one-liner at the shell prompt) to pretty big programs (web application with thousands of modules). It supports a wide variety of programming styles and paradigms, from simple imperative to procedural to object-oriented and functional. (Disclaimer: It's not much better than JavaScript at functional programming.) It also has much better Unicode support than many other languages. And it's fun!
