       I'm so glad I never watched that James Somerton video on Attack on Titan even though it had been sitting on my Watch Later list for ages.I just went and read the blog post it stole from instead and have some thoughts.I had some idea what it was going to be about, but I think there is much unsaid about interpreting AoT in it and its follow up post. There's a reply to the original one which is also quoted in said follow up that I think provides a very good bridge to interpreting AoT.While I think death of the author is largely a valid argument for interpreting media/art, I feel like for AoT in specific it kind of just... does not work.I think pretty much everyone agrees that the ending of AoT, in manga and in anime, is bad.I am going to argue that it is not.(1/3)
