@counteractor@pawoo.net Cryptographers, 1997: Using the 64-bit DEC Alpha CPU as a 64-way 1-bit computer and rewriting the DES cipher as a logic-gate circuit, we managed to implement the fastest DEC software in the world with a groundbreaking 500% speedup using this new bit-slicing technique. https://www.cs.technion.ac.il/users/wwwb/cgi-bin/tr-info.cgi?1997/CS/CS0891Shitposters, 2016: Let's use a GPU cluster and bit-slicing DES to find fancy 2ch/4chan tripcode...https://github.com/meriken/merikens-tripcode-engine-v3

@niconiconi@mk.absturztau.be One fun place where I've seen this technique utilized is for brute-force searching sorting networks. It turns out that of a sorting network works for all 1-bit inputs, it will work for any inputs, and a 2-input sort is a "and" and "or" operations between the inputs, so you can check each network 64 (or more with SIMD) inputs at a time with very little branching.
