@mametsuko I always thought the main benefit of "agile" methodology was to provide cover for doing away with the idea of having someone full-time devoted to just fiddling with Gantt charts all day long, but apparently the latest trend is to try and have both.

Yes on average, but once in a while I go crazy and cut it down to #3 hair clipper length which is apparently 0.95cm.

The little plastic bags you're meant to put fruit and veg into at the supermarket have turned green. Same old plastic, but now it's dyed green. This has got to be the most literal example of "greenwashing" I ever saw.

Trying to better understand dreams by analogy to artificial neural networks does seem like it might yield some insight, even while the artificial version is so primitive compared to the biological. Not sure if I agree with the conclusions though.Art of any kind, of any standard, can often be accepted into the "supersensorium". Perhaps it's the production of it being increasingly rare and difficult that's important in a more salient way than the packaging and selling of it. Artful fiction may be relatively rare, but it's had a lot of best-sellers. Maybe the distinction that is wanted is not be between art and entertainment, but between entertainment/art that is freely dreamed into existence to nourish us and that which is "overfitted" by inhuman algorithms to achieve particular ends that might be detrimental to its audience. But it's not the source of the work that really matters, it's the effect. What was carefully fitted to match the instincts and prejudices of one mind might be strange and mind-bending to another from a different cultural milieu. As with food, a more varied diet could probably do most of us some good.

I don't want to give the airlines any ideas, but serverless computing seems a lot like planeless air travel would be. There's still an aeroplane, but they put a bag over your head and knock you out while you fly, so you never have to see it. You wake up at your destination as if by magic, with a slight headache and a big charge on your credit card.

@mametsuko It started with some kind of fish making clicking noises with its mouth. Then at some point they developed ears. And then suddenly this one species decided to devote like 80% of its energy to having big brains and building cathedrals and typewriters and stuff.

@mer @Arcana @w @sergeantcat Ahh, I want to reply to everything I see, all the time. I am inherently a "reply guy" I suppose. It's only through sheer force of will that I avoid it as often as I do. The culture around here seems to be pretty much the opposite but I like it anyway. I feel like maybe I will get better some day.
