@brennen @codesections #Kakoune is the most interesting #Vim-like, with command syntax tweaks (not changes) more than justified by the free "chaining" of commands it enables. @icedquinn had a dream of a kakoune-mode for #Emacs (fitting Emacs better than evil-mode).

@icedquinn springing a curiosity question out of the blue here ...What do you think of Ivan Illich's deschooling? His essays in https://archive.org/details/DeschoolingSociety speak to the dangers of the welfare state as a problem of which the education system is a sub-problem.

@groovestomp i don't know if #GNU #Hyperbole.el integrates with ansi-term, but if it does, it might do what you want.

@groovestompWhat I wish I had read a couple of years earlier than I did: http://web.psung.name/emacstips/essential.htmlIt gets you ready to use vanilla Emacs well (it is only missing mention of 'M-x gdb' and 'M-x inferior-python' 'inferior-lisp' etc.). You can get going well even before choosing to use Magit, Org, Gnus, etc.@redstarfish @emacs

@fsf IMO, this is getting corporate-ish. "optimize impact"? What is next, quarterly results and an "inclusive and diverse" banner? Why not just get back to making a fist of it? Nobody can be fooled that it will fix everything in software (it hasn't, in the past), but it is all that is worth doing.

@strypey where I live, that is 10 times the price of a newspaper subscription, 15 times the price of an Amazon Prime subscription. If I think about it, Google and smartphone and smart TV manufacturers should be paying a big(ger) multiple of those credits.I would unquestioningly pay LineageOS or PostmarketOS if they transparently take a cut and pass on a healthy chunk to upstream projects. valueflo.ws ?

@strypey if Nextcloud isn't used for anything else, it is sounding like a VPN server. Sure, you would have to also run a VPN client on every Syncthing device if you ran a central VPN server.

Is there no hope for adoption of Jitsi or BigBlueButton for webinars? People aren't just staying with Joom, Goggle Meet and Farcebook live, they are adding Clubhouse into the mix instead of any of the existing free software services. For all we know, those proprietary services are running Jitsi or equivalent! It looks like none of the free software champions are actually influencers. To get a "win", maybe invent a new usage model with an open service from the start?#SocialMedia #Corporate

@strypey @mattj Hubzilla has cloning of profiles across accounts on different instances, so if one goes down, the others continue to work. An instance could signal impending shutdown, and users could clone to other instances.

@charlag there is no point as there is no barrier; otherwise, it would mean people are fine running several different git commands but not the one supporting the e-mail workflow. the problem is maintainers not supporting the e-mail workflow.@wzqtparor

@clacke admittedly, I wasn't talking of command-line e-mail, just git format-patch (command-line e-mail within the local network would work for organizations though). Send the patch via e-mail client was the idea.Maybe the problem is most people using webmail, that too as a secondary mode of communication. Time for git send-fediverse!Also interesting is the fossil-scm issues-in-repo approach, if it can be retrofitted to git/Hg, maybe combined w/ patch queues.@wzqtparor

@icedquinn ha ha! True, not big on wading into unjustified complexity here. In fact, there wasn't much complexity in using Emacs in the terminal to send a patch via gmail last I checked.I don't grok the git aversion, but I haven't used the ostensibly-better designs like Hg (or darcs). Isn't it supposed to be easy to use git remotes with , say, Hg locally? The Emacs Magit interface is also a big departure from de facto git commands.@clacke @wzqtparor

@icedquinn if I may, what do you think of https://c4ss.org ? I read "left libertarian anarchist" and scratched my head. Content doesn't seem that much aligned with their name either.
