@VoxofGod @MJ @TheRealBozoTClown @TonyStark She was just pandering to them, as one does if one is a politician. Sadly.

@VoxofGod @MJ @TheRealBozoTClown @TonyStark Ehhh... not gonna go with the "they're basically the same" meme, but I will agree this is a big problem with the Dem party. They need to cut it out with the "reaching across the aisle" nonsense, given who is across the aisle.

@mastodonusercount It looks like the bot had an outage yesterday and the graph makes this look like a spike/dip... some interpolation seems needed.

@mekkaokereke I've been trying to correct this on Issuepedia, but so far all I've had time to do is collect a bunch of notes.I need a vacation from my life so I can get some work done...

@Teri_Kanefield There was a span of several days in December(ish) when you'd just get a message saying that the post hadn't gone through. I also couldn't link to Mastodon in my profile.

@Teri_Kanefield Scientists are now struggling to devise a test which can tell the difference between Musk fanboys and ChatGPT. It may be that, at the subatomic level, they are in fact identical.

@412David @TonyStark Thing about "religious freedom" -- they always leave off the key words "to do as we like and also tell you what to do".

@river @news I've checked with the moderation team about this, and I got back this report:The instance is a single user instance, so the user in question here is almost certainly https://movsw.0x0.st/@miaI've attached the post in question [see screenshot], along with the direct context. '*key' essentially means 'forks of Misskey,' which this instance is running (FoundKey, in this case). With that and the other post, I'm reading the #fediblock post as spam and sarcasm based on this. The indirect context is that there's been a recent uptick in spam in #fediblock by instances associated with disqordia.space in retaliation for it being blocked.I feel pretty confident in the block, especially since this user seems to almost exclusively associate with instances we've blocked for being fashy, including disqordia.space. This seems like motivated spam to me, not some misunderstanding. Any further thoughts? Was there a particular reason you follow her? I'd certainly consider dialling the block back to a "silence", though again I think I'd want to talk about that with the mods.

@Pathfinder @actuallyautisticI remember watching the first episode, where a trans woman was being held against her will in a mental institution -- while at the same time, a trans friend of mine was being held against their will at a mental institution.

So, am I reading this right? It seems to be claiming:Unless my ISP somehow authorizes email to be sent from my IP, Gmail will now bounce it.Unless I am hooked up with an email service that somehow has clout with Google, Gmail will bounce it.Since the "ISP" through whom I am attempting to send mail is #DigitalOcean, I find item #1 to be dubious. They are not blocking my outgoing mail port, and I have no problems sending to most recipients (Google and Microsoft being the only exceptions I'm aware of).DigitalOcean seems to encouraging its users to use a 3rd-party service -- but I'm already paying them for hosting, and managing my own email service; I don't want to pay yet another service just for the privilege of being allowed to send messages to Gmail's increasingly walled garden. Is it time to formally #boycottGmail?#boycott #Gmail #GoogleAddendum: follow-up post

I have to wonder what it is that all these ad-bots get from creating accounts that they never do anything with. Is it just so some PR firm can truthfully(ish) say to their clients "We've obtained presence for you on over 10,000 social media sites!" where like 9900 of those are different fedi instances, and the customer is sufficiently unwoke to accept this at face value? Or is there something else behind it?(P.S. I'm going to start using "unwoke" as a synonym for "clueless"; pass it on.)

@tek @4bz Are they also going to make snaps work properly? Because all too often, apps installed that way have annoying/weird limitations.

@tek @4bz I haven't been very rigorous about checking into this, but I seem to recall running into at least these two problems on occasion:(1) Apps are unable to access files on mounted drives, or can't see bookmarks/shortcuts that most file-open dialogs can see.(2) File-open/save dialogs have other missing features, e.g. no image preview, no ability to see hidden files... things like that. Some of those may have been with flatpaks rather than snaps, too -- but that definitely makes me suspicious of installing things any other way. (Are snaps automatically upgraded through the usual automated system updater? Where would one see this happening?)
